Why would you have more than ONE e-reader
I'm really curious... as I now have 3 devices to read books on, and I'm still researching others?
![]() ![]() I just need a really good excuse, so please put your excuses here... Thank you |

One to put in your pocket.
One to lounge around with. A beaten up old one that is ok for the beach or to risk with puppies? |

The Sony 505 for reading ebooks from the Overdrive Library system and my Kindle DX for reading everything else. The Sony has only three sizes of fonts and I don't like the way most of my ebooks display on it. If Kindle ever gives us decent firmware and software to use Adobe Digital Editions and download from Overdrive, I'll sell my Sony. I do have an iTouch, but only use it for reading if I am at the doctor's office.

eReaders are much better than paper books, but they aren't yet perfect and we need to keep experimenting and supporting the hardware manufacturers?

I really don't see any reason for having more than 1 reader. Maybe 1 for home and 1 for work, but that's quite unjustified too.
IMHO, having more than 1 reader increases the cost and carbon footprint of reading to more than purchasing paper books. Buying more devices for the "gadget loving impulse" is just "gadget loving", no particular connection to ebook reading. |

Well,, I did a poll on the ideal screen size for an eReader. I came out with one conclusion:
you need one reader for day to day reading, and one for PDFs. So basically, you need one large screen reader, one small and portable device for daily reading. See the link here. Hope that helped ![]() |

I've only got one reader at the moment, but am likely to get others.
Although Harry's reason is perhaps the most honest, I can think of another reason, which is that although I enjoy reading with my new reader, it's not perfect - I can't read everything that I'd like to with it. When another device comes out with better contrast, or colour, or that is larger (so better for PDF/comics etc.), I might choose to get that too. Even with "perfect" readers, different form factors could be a reason to have more than one - a paperback size and a coffe-table/comic/newspaper size perhaps. |

As valid as other peoples explanations are above, these are my reasons for multiple devices:-
1/ Content - not all the books I want to read are available in the formats my device(s) handles and sometimes I just want to read - don't want to muck about format-shifting and 'liberating'. 2/ Display - e-ink for well-lit rooms, outdoors, holidays, etc... and back-lit for dimmed interiors/bedtime reading. 3/ Size - pocketable or not. Cheers, Pete |

![]() ![]() P.S. Tin whistles are generally much cheaper than ebook readers. I've got a whole jar full of those. ![]() |

Amen to that. I have my kindle 2 for leisure reading and are currently on the lookout for a device with a bigger screen for reading PDF:s.

Yeah, I was kinda lusting after a nook until some of the reviews and issues and the drm and file type confusion stuff came out. Still very interested in the Que and Edge and what Amazon may have up it's sleeve next. I'd love to have some type of color e-ink like device for magazine kind of reading. ![]() |
