8.1 inch and PDF books
Hi,
I been thinking about buying an E-book device, but im not sure if I should get one that is 8.1 inch, or one of the larger ones. Could someone try to download the free chapter from a book here: http://aspnetmvcbook.s3.amazonaws.co...rdinner_v1.pdf And see if its readable on a 8.1 inch device? and if you really want to make me happy post a few pictures of it ![]() Thanks! ![]() |

I'm in the same camp. I'm really torn between the DX and the iliad. The iliad's annotation is a major motivation, but the DX might be better for PDF. Can anyone comment?

I'm generally no fan of the Kindle (DX) - for good reading convenience of bigger papers use an IRex 1000S ...

Most books are fine, though that one is questionable
Most academic humanities/social-sciences books are fine; they tend to be somewhere around 6x9". The one you linked to, though, is a bit questionable. I wouldn't recommend 8" if a lot of your books have pages that large relative to font and pictures; I imagine the pix would lose a lot of usability.
You can see for yourself by seeing what a 1024x768 px version would look like, and making it the right physical size... |

I've been using this freeware app (http://www.brianapps.net/sizer/) to resize my windows to specific sizes so I can get an idea how it will look at a certain resolution.
For the dr800/iliad, I've created profiles for portrait 768x1024 and landscape 1024x768. Note that you may want to add to the numbers to compensate for PC-specifc things like toolbars, window bar, etc. And you have to consider reader-specific features such as being able to fit-to-text which ignores the useless borders in PDFs, status bar at top, toolbar at bottom, etc. Last edited by badbob001; 11-04-2009 at 11:29 AM. |
