Which one should I keep?
I am having a dilemma. I pre-order the Astak Pocket Pro a couple months back and finally got my first ereader. I loved my Pocket Pro but there was issue with the paint so I had to send it back, twice. However, while I was waiting for my second replacement. Ive read about the Sony PRS 505 being on sale at Target. I got panicked about the paint problem on my soon to arrive Pocket Pro replacement that I went out and bought the 505. Long story short, now I owned both. I havent open my 505 yet because I am not sure which one to keep. I have been reading books on the Pocket Pro and so far no problem. The little thing is awesome but I've heard good things about the 505 also. Sounds like I should go with the Pocket Pro, right? No no no..the first reader I was looking into was actually the 505 but back then it was kind of out of my price range but now I bought it for practically the same price as the Pocket Pro but with the light wedge cover even. What do I do???

Can't you try out the 505 in order to see which suits you better, Superstitious?

I've got both and find myself using the 505 not the PP, primarily due to the size and clarity of the screen, the 505 is just better.

Ok I guess I might just open and try it out side by side. The customer service at Astak is so great that I feel bad returning it if in case I found the 505 what I am looking for. I know I shouldnt feel guilty and its my right but still. Thanks for the advice. Im gonna try it tonight. Kenny, Im curious on one thing though, which one do you find handle ePub and PDF better (simple novels)? I like ePub a lot on the PP.

I like Epub on both. One thing I've noticed is the PP does full justification on many if not all of the books and I don't care for the way it does it, adding extra spaces etc make it hard to read. I think.
![]() Full justification in a book is different cause it doesn't add full spaces. I try to avoid PDF on both of them but do have one short story book in pdf that I've been reading on the 505 -- it's passable, but I don't like the way it does page breaks. The PP will of course handle more formats -- like MS Word -- which I've tried briefly with results similar to PDFs. I like that the 505 always has the page number and battery level displayed. I think the UI and navigation on the 505 is head and shoulders above the PP -- you can search and find my comments on that elsewhere. Don't get me wrong - I like the PP, it's just that I like the 505 better and think it is overall a better reader for my particular needs. |
