Kobo glo hd or kindle whitepaper 3 LIFETIME
So after many reviews Im thinking to buy kobo glo hd but one part I still dont know.. lifetime. Both kobo and amazon gives you only 1 year warranty?
Its not very long time period so these readers die often? Whats your experience with older kindle and hobo readers? How long they lasted? |

I can only speak for the readers I've owned but the battery has been the weakest link on mine. After year 4 it needed charged more frequently. Some are about dead. Otherwise they have worked flawlessly.

(Most) Kobos have the advantage of having an internal SD card that can be removed and replaced with a new one should it fail out of warranty. Kindle has the advantage of a customer service department that will often offer a modest discount on a new Kindle should the device fail out of warranty. Well except the one that drowned. That one was either user error or the ereader didn't like what I was reading and jumped out of my hand. So remember ereaders typically do not like hot bubble baths. |

Cool! Im very careful with my devices, never dropped any into water and never cracked screen. I just dont want ereader to die from no reason like for many people from product reviews. Not sure if they are fake or real..

On those reviews, take them with a grain of salt because there is usually a back story. I know of one guy that said his device was faulty because he sat it down on the arm of the couch, forgot it was there and put his elbow through it. Another left it in a very hot car. Or had dropped it previously. I have yet to actually hear of a device spontaneously dying for no reason. Did you know that at least 75 million ereaders have been sold? I have seen less than 50,000 bad reviews. So quit worrying and buy you one. Note: some credit cards have added protection too. Now as to which one to buy, both are good companies. |

Well now I wish you had told us that earlier.
I would have recommended the Kobo. It is fairly easy to put a pdf reader on the kobo. If I remember right, it is called koreader. Take a look around the Kobo forum. |

Some of those people may have a valid beef with customer service. But I've seen a fair few here who have thrown a tantrum because they've broken their screen and Kobo won't automatically replace it, because the warranty doesn't cover that sort of physical damage. Which is a *shrug* for me - yes, it's no fun to break a treasured device, but sometimes that's life. On "dead pixels": there is no such thing on e-ink, since it doesn't have pixels. Dead pixels are an LCD phenomenon. There are three likely issues at play here when people complain of "dead pixels". The first is light guide defects, which are there from the start as a bright spot when the light is on. These will be replaced under warranty (I usually buy my Kobos in-store so I can check out the device first). The second is user damage to the light guide from sharp objects. The earliest Nook lit ereader had a particular problem with this. It doesn't seem to be much of an issue with more recent device or any other brand, but it's still a good idea to not scratch or impact your screen with sharp things. The last is small dark spots in the screen from burst e-ink capsules. Again, this can be a result of physical damage. I'm not sure whether it ever occurs spontaneously. |
