What's the Buzz on Toshiba e800?
Aloha, Sports Fans! I recently saw an ad for the Toshiba e800 Pocket PC and thought I'd ask if any of all y'all have had any experience with it--or have heard anyone raving about or trashing the device.

One thing to keep in mind is that they didn't sell too many of them (I think) and they got out of the pda market pretty soon after that model came out. That might make support difficult both formally and via forums.
But I have a Toshiba PPC myself and it's great. It's an e405. I suppose the 800 is a VGA model. It's probably pretty nice, but unless you get it really cheap you may want to consider a Dell x50v. Also check to see if it has WM2003 or WM2003SE. You might also be able to reflash a WM2003 to upgrade it to SE. (They provided that for free via support web site for my e405.) Good luck. |

Mahalo for the feedback, Bob! I notice you recommend looking at the Dell Axim x50v with Windows Mobile 2003SE as opposed to say the x51v with Windows Mobile 5.0. Any particular reason?

I only suggested the x50v because it looks like you are picking out older models for cost advantage. If $s are not a restriction, I'd definitely move up to something like the x51v like you say. There might be some issues with stability of applications, but I doubt it's worth retreating to the older model because of that.
On the other hand, the T|X is also supposed to be very nice if you like PalmOS. |

No, money's not a problem. I'm a little confused on one point, though: The more I read up on PDAs, the more I hear about WM2003SE being superior to WM 5.0 because 5.0 is prone to seizing up and is very buggy when it comes to running applications. Your thoughts, Sir?

Yeah, I'm hearing about stability issues also. So 2003se vs WM5 is a tough choice right now. I think Alex said he is sticking with 2003se on his x50v for now.
Major apps will probably develop workarounds over time to help with that, but it's that awkward in-between time for WM OS right now. And even true-life experiences of other people may not tell too much about what your experience will be because it probably depends a lot on what combination of apps you are running. Maybe Dell can tell you if they have ROM update planned for WM5? |

Here's a comment at PDA24/7 about WM5 being not stable...
