Screen Blemish?

Umm, so today is the first day I've sat down and tried to read on my PP. Has anyone else developed what you'd probably think of as like a dead pixel? I know it not LCD, but I have really really tiny dot that appears to be under the the screen. Not on the surface, and I did wipe with a microfiber, but no luck. Weird thing is it's their even when I cut the PP off.

It's a little nerve racking. It's like a magnet for my eyes.

If what you are seeing looks something like the photo in the link below, then what you are seeing is probably some "lazy" ink capsules. The phenomena is present in all e-Ink displays from all manufacturers in varying degrees. Of course, you will also be able to see them with the power off. This is e-Ink after all.

Ok, guess I'll live with it rather than get all weird about it. This should go in the list of things noobs should know.

Perhaps it is different to what Dave_S is talking about. I would probably contact tech support and see what they say about it if it is bothering you.

If they are like the imperfections in the link that I posted, then I think that you would need a camera with some kind of macro capability. I can barely see them with the naked eye, and need to use a magnifying glass to really see them well. Maybe, I got really lucky with the two readers that I have.

Hmmmmm, from what I can see in your macro photographs it looks like you have clusters of pixel bubbles that are not flipping properly. The black cluster above the first letter 'e' in the second line is especially noticeable! Are the noticeable black or white specks always in the same place on each screen refresh, or do they move with each new page? I was just wondering if you have some "dead pixel clusters" that never change? When I look at my e-Ink screens the specks move around sort of randomly with each screen update, but they are small enough that I do not really notice them unless I use a magnifying glass.

I wonder if a fixed cluster of pixels like that would be considered enough of a screen defect to warrant a warranty replacement?

But but... That would involve sending it back.

I mean granted they would even want me to have a blemish free device. It's still the first 14 days.

Personally, that defect would bother me. I have two e-ink Readers (ebookieuses ) already, and would not settle for what you've shown in that photo.

ugh... I know I know. I'll see what they say. Not sure I'm ready for being without it. Wish I would of looked at it closer before charging and updating firmware and such. But I guess I would of had to start reading to see it.

I've been without mine for just over a week (it was a week last Friday), and my replacement should be here by Thursday.

Do what I did. Send it back, and now that you've at least read a few types of books on it, and you know what style/format/font you like, spend the next couple weeks on "Calibre"ating your library.
