Talking Finally Got My PRS-600

Yesterday, after weeks of intense research and comparing features with other models available, I finally bit the bullet and purchased the 600. So far I really like it a lot. It has all of the features I was interested in. I am breaking it in by reading Starfish by Peter Watts, which is a free download science fiction download from Baen Books.

The main reason I got this model is that I do a lot of research for my writing and, with the expansion slots, I can have all of my research books currently out in e-book format with me. Especially those obscure ones that I have been able to find on this site. Many of them both out of print and hard to find. Also I can keep infinite backup copies of my current writing projects on hand in e-book form factor as well. This is a great thing because I am constantly revising and save any new changes I make on a document as a completely diffent file.

Having the search function is worth the price alone. Hooray, in some instances, no longer having to open my laptop on a crowded bus when I need to find some much needed info right away. Also the 6 inch screen and adjustable fonts I have found to be easier on my youth challenged eyes as well. In fact I was able to read much longer last night than I have been able to do in ages. Plus the touch interface is wonderful to use.

BTW, I went with the red one. Really fell in love with that color. Was originally gonna get the silver one but liked this one much better.

Congrats on your purchase! The 600 is the one I would buy if I could: 1) afford it, and 2) justify the purchase (I have a 505 that is less than 1yr old and nowhere near full, unlike my previous 500).
Enjoy your new toy!

You have the 505 and the 600. I have the 505 and am seriously thinking about getting the 600 for my wife. The main thing I have read against the 600 is readablilty. How would you compare the two?

Hopefully my 600 will arrive tomorrow. I already have a 505 and can't justify keeping both, but I can have both for a while to compare them. I can't wait to see it. Unfortunately the colour choices were only black or silver.

Oops - it's here!

EDIT: Here is a newbie question. What are those little round holes on the left side, at the top and bottom of what would be the "spine" of a regular book?

I believe you're referring to the mounting points for the Sony cover.
Sony's cover has a plastic strip along the spine with 90 degree bends at each end. The small tabs formed by the bends have inward facing pegs that fit into holes on the top and bottom of the reader. It's a nice mechanical design, and although I haven't had any trouble, I'm still bothered that the clip material is plastic. I'd prefer metal.

mine is in the mail. I chose the 600 over kindle dx and 505 because I read pdfs and at least the 600 can zoom. I want to wait for an international DX, plastic logic or dsr-800 before I go for a big pdf reader. So fingers crossed that I will like me 600.

I actually ordered the 500 first, but cancelled and got the 600 instead. Zoom over clarity...

I concur, while I was inserting the reader into them (see my review) they needed to be bend a tad bit to get the reader in, which to my mind did not feel like a very save thing to do repeatedly. Could be wrong here, but I expect if you take the reader out several times (for those occasions you wish to read without cover) they might simply break off - which would be a bit of a shame for a $60 cover.

I was feeling some buyers remorse when the new bling showed up, but now that I have the reader, I like it a lot. It feels very solid - aluminum, not plastic. The screen isn't as reflective as I expected (although I can see how readability could be better without it). I spent sometime reading last night, and it was very pleasant. It works better with diffuse lighting, but it you have a single light source, you just have to angle it a bit to see the text perfectly clearly.

As far as the holes, thanks for the explanation! I get my M-Edge cover today, so I will see how that goes (it is the cover for the 700). I thought the holes might have been for some tool to open the book up, but they make sense for a cover.
