New Phone

I just bought a Samsung I730. I also just came home on the weekend to find my dad ordered a Treo 650 the same day. I was torn between which one of these phones to get so now I get to see both in action. The deciding factor was the OS. I used my last pocket pc for ebooks alot but after a while I found that was the only thing I used it for. I tried to use it for scheduleing but I found I never had it with me when I needed to check my schedule, so I wanted to get a smart phone because it will give me a reason to have my pocket pc with me at all times. I have a few questions though.
1. can I use mp3s for ring tones or can I create ring tones from mp3s?
2. Is there any programs or things I should know about smart phones that dont apply to pocket pc (Since I have owned a pocket pc for a while)
3. I can still use mobi pocket right!!?
4. Kinda unrelated but can I "unlock" japanese phones to use in the US?
