Hello there! Found this place while researching readers, and I ended up getting the 505.
To test it out, i've converted some LIT books to LRF via PDF, and while readable, I can't change the font size at all and it's tiny I realise I probably should have converted them straight from LIT to LRF, but Calibre seemed to crash everytime I tried to do something with it, so I ended up using a LIT to PDF followed by a PDF to LRF. I did try using the PDFs but the fonts seemed all over the place. I did that reader mod to add the clock and standardise the fonts by the way, in case that is causing issues. So anyone faced these problems, and if so how did you get around it? Alternatively anyone point me to a more relible LIT to <best 505 format> converter? Thanks a lot ![]() |

Hi there,
The best tool to create nice LRF books from LIT files is to use Book Designer Also check the mobileread wiki for details on how to install it correctly on Vista/Windows 7 The following threads will be invaluable to get you started. It takes a bit more effort but it creates the best LRFs. However, Calibre's LIT to LRF is quite good and I have used it a lot for well formatted LIT files. It is definitely faster than BD, but BD gives you a lot more control. Book Creation Tutorials Book Designer Hints and Tips |

Do you have the newest version of Calibre? Maybe you should post the problem with any error messages in the Calibre forum. Kovid seems very responsive to fixing problems with Calibre as there are updated versions every few days now.
Also, are you converting in bulk or one at a time? Try one at a time if you haven't. I've converted several hundred .lit files to .lrf using Calibre and the results have always been great. I usually convert only 1 or 2 books at a time. I convert to Times New Roman font size 10 and the file is very readable in small size on the Sony. If my eyes are tired I can change to medium and it's fine. If you have really good eyes you may want to go smaller. You can also try .lit to .epub as that can be used on the Sony. With .epub I use Times New Roman font size 13 to get the same size display as size 10 in lrf. |
