I am brand new to this whole "forum" stuff. Not sure how it works, but I can learn. I am interested in purchasing an electronic "reader" but not sure which one is better for me. Probably between the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader. Mostly read for entertainment and mostly fiction. With the Kindle, do I have to be on a "wireless" internet connection to get books? Or can I go through my home PC internet connection? Told you I was new, sorry for a dumb question.

Welcome aboard.

Good question. I'm not a Kindle user, but I think I can answer. The Kindle uses a 3G wireless connection that works anywhere (in the US only, I think). You don't have to be in a wifi hot spot. You can shop the Amazon store from your PC or the Kindle itself and then your purchases are sent over the connection to the Kindle.

The Which on should I buy? section of the forums will have a lot of good information to help you with your decision.

Welcome to MR!

From what I've read here, you can buy either on your Kindle using Amazon's "whispernet". Or you can buy on your PC and download teh books to your kindle via a cable.

And it's not a dumb question!

Welcome to MobileRead, smith65803!

There are no dumb questions, only new learners! As far as the Kindle is concerned, you can download via the Whispernet or your computer. The same goes for the new Sony 900 that is coming out in December. If you are confused about which reader would work best for you, you can check out the Ebook Reader Matrix in MR's Wiki. It has a lot of great information on available readers and is easy to use to make comparisons.

Oh, and don't be shy about asking questions, members here at MR are notoriously helpful!

Happy Reading!
