Format Card Utility

Isn't there supposed to be a storage card formating program as a basic utility with the pocket pc? And if so where can I find it? I've looked on my device and can't find it and when I looked around on the internet all I could come up with so far are companies selling this utility! Can anyone clear this up with me and let me know the story?

Thanks,
Steve

You can also format a card from your pc if you have a card reader attached.

That's true. But is there a basic formating utility on the pocket pc itself that I don't have to pay for? The other handheld that I have is a Sony Clie and it has the program MS Gate that allows you to format the storage disk. Is there one for the pocket pc?

Thanks,
Steve

Good point. I also dislike companies who try to sell formatting tools, as if it was something so extraordinary that we'd want to pay for it. Perhaps it's safer to perform low-level operations on a PC, that is just my guess. You may want to try Stephbel Format which hasn't been updated in a while, but it's free and should still work for your purposes:

Thanks, but would it be alright to install the program since it's in French? Does it even matter? Thanks for the replies but I don't know why such a simple program is made into such a big deal. I think I'll stick with formatting the disk on my main computer. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks,
Steve
