PRS-600 much slower accessing SD memory?

Hi,

I'm new to PRS-600. So far, I've dumped a couple of ePub books to the main memory, and a few to a 4 GIG SD card. When accessing the 4 GIG SD, it seems there is always a rather bad lag. For example, when I double-tap on the top right hand corner to dog-ear-bookmark the page, it takes about 9-10 seconds before the dog-ear appears.

If the books are in main memory, it's almost instantaneous.

Can someone pls comment what is the speed for his/her SD card to make a bookmark? I'm wondering if getting a faster SD card will help, but I understand faster SDs are mainly improving the writing speed and not the reading speed.

Thanks!

I don't recognise any difference at all between internal memory, SD card or memory stick. Neither on Sony 600, nor on Sony 505 or Sony 700.
I only have one serious lag: When changing the card, re-initialisation takes significantly longer on the cards than for eBooks in internal memory.

Same experience here. Maybe the issue lies within the read speed of the card?

It could be. I don't really have a spare SD card so I took a micro SD and put it into one of those SD card adapters. I'm not sure if this kind of stuff has any difference in performance.

Probably will have to make a trip down to the computer store to get a new SD.

4 gig cards are about $10 ussually less.

but try formatting the card before you buy one.

Yea, the price doesn't bother me much... I just don't want to buy something extra unless I'm sure. I'd already formatted it before I put in the card.

If speed is a problem, then don't use SD cards. The internal memory holds a ton of books. Problem solved.

Thanks for all the advises. I have some work related PDF files that are like 20-40 MB each... so these take up much more space. Thats why I would prefer using SD or external memory.
