Woohoo! Job!

I've not been around the past month or so because I've been moving/job hunting pretty intensely. It's a rough market out there, right now! For what would be entry level jobs you're competing with professionals who have been laid off and crappier jobs like call centers, retail, etc. won't hire people who are overqualified because they know they'll quit once something good shows up. Anyway, not a good time to be job hunting.

But, I found a job (and in my field!) and started last Tuesday! I'm now the Literacy Director at a local non-profit that is also a food bank and free clinic. My job is to help out with those activities, but I also help people in the community get their GEDs, find jobs, tutor local children who need it, and help some of them get into college.

Anyway, I wanted to share it as everyone here has been so supportive. Thanks a lot!

Sounds like a great position. I've been thinking/re-evaluation my situation and am leaning towards trying to find something that is more along these lines. In other words some job that helps the people, the planet, society etc. as opposed to focusing on the bottom line and/or selling people things they don't need.

P.S. Just noticed you are in Norman, OK a place I spent a few years at the University of OK. I grew up in southern OK.

Seriously (Watch! Marc does "serious"!), you've always given me an impression of calm, intellectual, reasonable and purposeful ability, and while that is only a very simple impression from a single MR audience member, and while perhaps your interior world might try to deny it at times (I don't know), I'm pretty sure that there's a strong measure of accuracy in it that has lead you to this current success, and will lead you (not to mention those you teach) ever onwards.
