Note taking : need advise

Thinking of getting one for note taking.

Can anyone advise if we can type and draw on the same page for note taking?

Thanks

nope you can't do both at the same time, two different applications on the device.

But you can write and draw on the same page... trouble is the writing is freehand and remains part of the page graphic not actual text...

Wouldn't like to do it myself but some seem to think that it's OK... see if you can try one in a shop...

IMO all of the eink screens are too slow to support rapid note-taking. The screen needs to refresh after you write a character. This is true of all e-ink screens, not just the Sony.

I saw that the Kindle has a notes application now. It's not made by Amazon, it's a third-party app. They increased the typing speed by having the letters be low-res (aliased or anti-aliased, I never remember which is which). Have you tried that? I would think the physical keyboard be much faster for taking notes.

Didn't think Kindle had a keyboard, just a bunch of dots way too small for any form of typing/note-taking at anything other than hunt'n'peck speeds...

I have used my PRS350 for jotting down quick reminders and action items during meetings, but it's ill-suited for actual minute-taking. I find that I have to make my letters quite large in order to be legible later. It's more realistic to think of it as electronic Post-it (r) notes than a note pad.

I agree, you can't make any precise drawing / writing on the PRS, thus all writing must be quite large to be readable. I guess it's due to the IR technology used for touchscreen, as my Samsung E60 which uses wacom-like technology allows way more precise (and consequently smaller) writing.

thanks folks for the inputs .. I have KindleDXG but found the keyboard is kind of useless for real typing .. I guess have to wait for NoteSlate then for real note-taking pad ..

Yes, I guess "keyboard" is generous. Still, I find "chiclet keys" (a la my old Palm Centro) to be faster than "onscreen keys" (a la my new iphone). I don't take notes with my reader so it's not an issue for me.
