Smile New Reader saying HELLO

Hello everyone.
This is my first post.
I was going to buy a Sony e-reader next week (PRS 505) but have just read about the new models, so I will need to do a bit more research!
Any help or suggestions gratefully received!
Regards, Raph

Hello Ralph & welcome to MobileRead. I have a Sony 505 as well as a Kindle 1 (not availble in the UK) and I'm holding off on buying a new reader, though I have been looking longingly at the 5-inch models. The Sony 300 sure looks like a good deal. But, you might consider picking up a used 505 from someone who is eager to have the newest model -- you might get a superb deal.

So, does that sound wishy-washy? Of course! That's because there isn't a single, definitive answer. Do your research. Check out the info on the various models on the MobileRead Wiki.

We're glad you've joined us at MobileRead. Be sure to let us know which reader you decide to get -- and what books you're reading on it.

Hi rafa08 and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a Sony 505 since Jan 08 and really like it. And am not tempted at all by what I've read about the new models. Mind you, I haven't had my hands on one yet

Hi Rafa08, welcome to Mobile Read. I have a Sony PRS-505 and a 700. As a college student, I use the 700 to down load papers on to so I can annotate them. But, I prefer the 505 for its clarity. Either way, I really missed an onboard dictionary which I had when I had my ebookwise 1150. With the 600 I will be able to make annotations and have a dictionary. The clarity is not supposed to be as good as the 505 but better than the 700. I have pre ordered it and am looking forward the annotation properties and the dictionary. Hope you enjoy it here at MR. Everybody's friendly and willing to give you any help you feel you need.

Hello, rafa08. Welcome. I agree with cassidym, I've had a 505 for a while now and have never wanted anything else.

Having just joined this site about a month ago and spent that entire time researching the e-reader devices, I just ordered a Sony PRS-505. I literally spent hours reading this site and trying to decide which is the best device for me. That means deciding which features mean the most to you. I was sort of wishy washy on that one for a while , but then clarity set in and I placed my order Friday night. Just remember there is no perfect ereader at this point and you need to weigh the pros and cons of each and then decide which is the best device for you. We all have different reading habits and what one person says is the perfect ereader, another will say is terrible.

Good luck with your search!
