Unhappy Cannot connect to PRS-700 anymore

I've just upgrade the eBook Library software this morning, and since then, it crashes every time I connect my PRS-700 to my computer. The software itself runs fine if the PRS is not connected. If I connect it while it is running, after a moment or two, it crashes. If the PRS is already connected when I start it, then it crashes at start.

I'm running Vista Premium with the latest patches. I've added the software to the Data Execute Prevention so that it should not turn DEP on for this software. I also tried running the software under Administrator privileges or under various "compatibility" modes, but nothing works.

Help!

Anything else I can try to make it work?

Calibre

I just downloaded and tried Calibre and it let me upload a book to my Reader. I'd rather use the Sony software but in the meantime, the workaround that I'll have to use is Calibre until they fix the Sony software.

I guess you will always be able to upload a book to your device with drag'n'drop, using your PRS as an external mass storage disk. It's the only way I use to load books to my PRS 505.

I've never tried that, I must admit. I'll give it a go. I noticed that it maps three "drives" when I connect my PRS 700, but I've not explored what's on them. If I can figure out where to copy what, that'd work even easier than Calibre.

Thanks,

The three drives are the main memory and the two slots for memory expansion. My drives are F, G and H--F is the main memory. Drag and drop is pretty simple so I guess that is what I will use for a while.

Just be sure to drop your ebooks in the correct folder. For PRS 505 it's \database\media\books. Chances are that it is the same on the 700.

Same for the main Sony Reader memory: \database\media\books
On the SD card, it's \Sony Reader\books

I guess there is no way to group them by collection like I normally do with the software. At least, I can still put my non-fiction on my SD memory card, and my novels on the Sony Reader itself.

Well, there are such tools for the 505, but I doubt they work on the PRS 700.
I use "File Manager and Collections Creator for PRS 505" (here and here) which basically converts subfolders into collections (see my comment).

There is also collection builder.
You might want to go to the relevant threads and post a question about their compatibility with PRS 700.

Same problem with my 505. I called Sony (877)263-2863, they seem to be aware of the problem. They are suggesting an unistall and renistall. This is not as simple as using the add/remove program function. You have to delete data files as well(i.e. kinoma, marlin, sony corp.) You lose your entiire library. You can re-download purchases from the Sony Ebook store. They are working on a patch.

Ditto..removed & reinstalled, but I got started with Calibre in the meantime & use it, forgoing the Sony library entirely.

That's the other reason I started using Calibre...using 'tags' gives me the ability to put titles into collections

I just spent three different episodes with three different "tech support" people over the same issue, and I still can't run the new version of the Sony Library. I've given up; on Monday I'll bring my V2.5 CD home from my office, uninstall V3, and reinstall V2.5 - which came with m 700.
