So now it's available in Canada...
Now what ?
Is there a chance that the Kindle 2 I bought last year in the US could use the network readilyor does it need to be converted to international or do I have to re-register it ?? I ask because I do use the wireless feature when I'm in the US already, which is 5 to 6 times a year. I don't mind buying my ebooks from Amazon and then downloading them to my K2, but it would sure be nice to be able to get some of the subscriptions going... By the way, I looked quickly and not all seem available... why is that ? Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks ! Stegar |

Hey, good questions... that have all been answered 1000 times, lol. More or less, no, your previous Kindle 2 wireless will not work outside the US. However, you can sell it, and buy the new one. I sold my previous Kindle 2, two weeks ago, for $290 (so, more than it's worth - oh well, that's when it wasn't available in Canada). Worth it? Um, maybe, maybe not. To be honest, I keep the wireless off most of the time to save battery, but it is nice to have, and kinda cool that I can check my email while traveling.

You could try contacting Amazon to see you could make an exchange. Make sure they know you're in Canada and travel back and forth to the U.S. They might say no but they might say yes.

thanks edge 777. I admit I could have research it a little more, but I'm pretty busy these days at work... oh well !!
I did however check the available titles with the Canadian edition of K2 and I find it poor. As for subscriptions, the one I would like (i.e. WSJ and the Economist) don't seem to be there either... any comments on this or should I dig through the forum... ;o) Thanks for helping out ! |

Ya, I hear ya on the content. Here's what I do (don't tell anyone!!!!). I'll go to Manage My Kindle, and switch to my US address to buy the books, and then back to my Mexican or Canadian address. If I'm on my US address, it will want to charge me $1.99 extra to download it when roaming, and gets really crazy with subscriptions. However, if I'm under my Mexican address, it's back to free, and I can use the web-browser for free.
