PRS-505 out of country warranty?

I've been using my Mio Digiwalker to read eBooks for the past six months and intend to buy a PRS-505 while visiting in the UK this summer. I live in Israel. Does anyone know if Sony will honour the warranty of a device purchased in the UK for service in Israel or will I have to return it to Sony UK for warranty service? Is that at all possible?

Thanks to all who replied. I have sent off a clarification request to Sony UK and will update you when, and if, they respond. I guess that since the Warranty is only 90 days I will take the risk and if I have a catastrophic failure (fingers crossed!) I will ship it off to my relatives in the UK for service. I suppose it should really be registered in their name for this to work, though.

Afaik the UK warranty is only valid for UK customers and Sony has not to honour the UK warranty in Israel. It depends on the goodwill of Sony...

never count on the goodwill of Sony to repair a Sony product purchased elsewhere! They won't do it, even if you pay for it. In or out of warranty. They didn't even do it for my laptop that I bought in HK, even though the warranty was expired and they sold the same type locally. That I would have to pay for the repair didn't matter either. No wonder Sony is losing big money! They took one look at it and told me to take it back to where I bought it. Fortunately I travel to HK about 10 times a year. But now I am using an HP laptop, no such troubles.

Another option is the jetBook (5" LCD) ebook reader - the unit has a 1-year world-wide warranty no matter where you purchase it.

Alternative to the Sony reader for you

try to get your hands on a CyBook or BeBook (google for these readers, there is a USA site offering them for 179 US $).
Sony will give a Europe wide warranty on the readers sold in Europe, but Israel is Middle East so you are out of luck until Sony starts selling them in your country.
