Hello, Everyone!

Hi! I am pretty sure that I will be purchasing a Sony 505 within the next few days, and I am very excited about it! I have been looking at a few e-libraries and such, and they don't seem to offer the type of books that I tend to read (more modern fiction), which is disappointing, but oh well..

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Megs94!

Glad that you chose the 505! (I sincerely hope you ordered a silver one...) As for books, have you taken a look at all the free downloads right here in MobileRead? Plenty to chose from. The good folks here will be more than happy to direct you to download sites for what ever titles you'd like. Why not tell us a little more about just what you prefer to read. While you're at it, what part of the world are you writing from? Do you prefer cats, dogs, or iguanas? What is your DNA sequence? What's the difference between an orange? Have some fun while you're here!

I actually just started browsing the free downloads on the forums, and it looks like I can find more than enough to keep me occupied for awhile

I live in upstate NY, no... not even close to the city! Most people around here would say they prefer cows, but since I have not completely transformed into a redneck yet, I am going to have to go with dogs. However, the complete transformation is impending... well, hopefully not!

As far as books are concerned, I just finished the Twilight series, which as cliche as it sounds, I found to be a VERY good read. Some of my other favorites (and recent reads) are: The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns (I know, I'm a little late to board that train), The Memory Keeper's Daughter, all of Vince Flynn's books and both historical fiction and non-fiction (1421, 1776, Invisible Nation, The Private Life of Chairman Mao), and classics like St. Augustine's Confessions, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Raisin in the Sun, Silas Marner, Billy Budd, So Long a Letter
Next up on my to-read list is the Sookie Stackhouse Series, Pride and Prejudice, Thomas Paine's Common Sense and Shanghai Girls

I never realized what an eclectic taste in books I have until I typed it out... wow! And I'm sure you really didn't want to know all of that about my book likes, but oh well, I got really into my thoughts when I was posting that and... that's what happened! haha...
I am getting a silver PRS-505, but I only defaulted to that because there aren't pink ones available. I did, however, find a website that makes skins for Sony Readers, so I think I may be investing in one of those to make mine a little more "me."

Thank you for the welcome!

Say, Columbus... is Vince Flynn similar to Lee Child's stuff? If so, you've given me a whole new direction to travel! I can/have read and re-read Child's 'Reacher' novels so many times I can almost quote them! I'd love to find another author as entertaining. (I've done the same with John Sanford's 'Prey' series and Faye Kellerman's 'Decker' books.) Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated! Thanks

To the contrary... That is exactly what we want to know! Your listing of titles and authors gives us ideas and directions we can go too! It also helps us suggest new areas for you. As you saw by my post to Columbus, his reply to you spurred a new possible interest for me, for which I thank both of you!

A very wise (and fortunate) choice, as the silver ones will do far more for your standing in the world community. You might notice more and more people treating you with much more respect once you have your silver reader. Certainly you'll have less trouble with goats eating your garden, not to mention keeping the elephants away. I'll bet after you receive your reader you won't see a single one anywhere in your neighborhood. At least, that's been my experience.

I find them very similar in style & whilst not great literature they are very entertaining page turners.

David Baldacci and Stephen leather are also similar style

What about Harlen coben and Quintin Jardine? not exactly the same style but very entertaining.

I read 'Great Literature' while in high school and and read only 'Great Literature' in university. I spoke of it at cocktail parties. That was then. These days I also admit to eating at McDonald's.

I've read (and re-read) everything Stephen Leather has written. Love it! David Baldacci.... hmmm... I've tried two so far and couldn't get into them. I've a couple more to try before I rule him out.

I enjoyed Coben's "Woods" very much, (haven't seen others yet,) but never read Jardine. I'll give that a try. These days I enjoy a simple page turner just as much, if not more, than the classics. I usually ready one of each (plus some Sci-Fi) at the same time, bouncing back and forth as the mood hits me.

Hi megs94 and welcome to MobileRead. Too bad about the silver 505. But maybe you can get a BLUE skin.

If you like Vince Flynn, you probably will also like Brad Thor. I just finished the first of several books he's written and it was as fast paced and very similar to Flynn. And columbus is right about Lee Child.

In fact there is an author mapping web site here http://www.literature-map.com/ where you type in an author's name and it returns a chart with that name in the center surrounded by other similar authors. The more like the author you entered the closer to him on the chart. Try it with Vince Flynn, for example, and you'll see Brad Thor come the closest.
