Another one for the blue camp
My 505 (blue) arrived yesterday. I'm very pleased with it. I already own an iRex iLiad v2. I must say that I love the instant on feature in the Sony. The Sony menu navigation is also much faster than that of the iLiad.
I purchased an iLiad due to being a Software Engineer and reading computer manuals in PDF format. I had read on here that the iLiad is better for PDFs. The iLiad has a larger screen and can therefore display a whole PDF page on the screen and be readable, but the print is still a bit small for comfortable reading unless I zoom in to remove the whitespace from the sides of the document, then it is better and easier to read. However, the iLiad does not reflow the text if I zoom in further, not out of the box anyway. I did try a 3rd party app that allows PDF reflow, but it is slightly 'clunky' to use since you must load the application and then search for the file. It takes a few minutes to get the document open if you have switched to another document in the mean time (which I do since I read novels as well as computer texts in PDF). So, I have to say that I am very impressed with the way that the 505 handles PDFs and to be honest, I am not sure why everyone is complaining. It does a pretty good job considering the screen size and if I knew that it was this good then I may have just purchased the Sony straight up. Anyway, both devices have good features and I plan on using them for different purposes now. I will use the 505 for reading novels and for when I want to travel 'light' and I will use the iLiad for reading computer texts in PDF and CHM formats. I have to say that another thing the 505 has going for it is battery life. I charged it up yesterday and I have given it a work out since, giving demos to people at work, and the battery indicator is still on full. If that was the iLiad, it would be completely flat by now, no joke. Well, I am looking forward to hanging out with you in here. See you all around. Jodi |

Congrats on your new toy. Also good going getting the blue one. Isn't it cool how your intelligence increases when you read from a blue one?
The Sony is very good on battery life especially if you don't leave an SD card plugged in when you use the reader. |

Congratulations on your new reader. I'll venture to say that my silver 505 is equally good at delivering the excellent novels I choose to read. (I'm not interested in using the Sony Reader for technical documentation -- but I don't "read" it as much as "reference" it.)
Since you're experienced with electronic readers, we hope you'll share your experiences with others. Now -- curious minds want to know! What types of novels are you reading? |

Thanks for the welcome messages everyone.
I have been showing my e-reader off to everyone. The Sonys are not actually officially available here in Australia and most people seem to have never heard of e-readers, so it is a lot of fun showing it off. Everyone is amazed and just loves it. As for what I am reading....Computer related: I am currently reading the Java exam study guide since I will be sitting the exam shortly. Novel related: I have read Twilight, but not the rest of the series (I'm a bit slow hey)...so planning on reading those, but I am also planning on joining in the book club on Mobile Read this month.
