iBookstore - six month report
Great article here...
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/10/14/the-i...e-big-failure/ Personally, I am one of those odd people who have bought a Kindle because I use the Kindle app on my iPad. I think there are quite a few of us! amjb |

Kudos to Random House for not buckling under to Agency Pricing. What I don't understand is why the author simply didn't purchase the books with the Kindle app and read them on his iPad.

That's too bad. Having a solid ereader would make the iPad that much more attractive and useful.

Perhaps what the author of the article failed to realize is that Apple doesn't care much about content; the overwhelming majority of their revenues is from hardware, and content is just there to hook you into the platform.
So it doesn't matter to Apple if people wind up buying ebooks from Amazon, as long as people keep buying iPads.... |

I guess if your "random" sample includes only books from Random House, then yeah, the iBookstore is a complete failure. But, according to the article, only 3 or the NYT Bestsellers weren't there. That's not so bade.
I like the iBook app a lot better than the Kindle app such that I now buy a book from the iBookstore first if -- it's there and the same or near price. If not, I buy it at Amazon. Fortunately for me, I read a lot of books from Baen and so I have a good supply of epub books that I read via the iBook app. But the Kindle app is fine as well, so it's no big deal to me if a book isn't available via the iBookstore. And if Amazon doesn't have it, there's Barnes and Noble, or Borders, or just about every other book store. All available for reading on the iPad. I think Apple is happy with that. Lee |
