I am happy with my digital reader (what the ?)

It's been almost 6-8 months since the time digital reader has been released , and I have following the forum , the wait for it to arrive, the expectation people had and they way they were crushed due to battery and I believe only battery . I have heard people complain their arses off including me. Every week I would check in for some new magical firmware release which would make the batterylife ok , scribbling like real paper blah blah .

I saw the kidle-dx being release I immediatly thought I shall buy it , sell this abomination , But something happened , my exam came and suddenly I had loads and loads of journal to read , and bam , it's usefulness struck me , I did buy it originally to be able to read pdf files and that it does exteremly well , no cropping , no tweaking , straight dump read and forget , even simple underling and circling(cave men style though) . Exams are over. I am happy.

I saw harryt buy one which gave me more confidence considering how active he is here , and he must have thought a lot and bought it , kind of stupid I know but then it's just the reinforcement . I am sticking with mine , reading Greek Mythologies books in full a4 glory & loads of journal articles on post earning announcement drift which is my dissertations.

It lasts 4-5 hours a day for me

I am delighted with my DR. I know that some people regard the battery life as a "problem", but for me it certainly isn't. Reading for 3 hours, which is the most I ever do, the battery never loses more than one "bar", so I could probably go for 3 or 4 days without recharging. In reality, I simply connect the DR to my PC for an hour a day, and that keeps the battery fully charged.

Since the last firmware update I no longer have any complaints with my DR. Previously the pen-bug drove me nuts because it meant I couldn't switch off two of the sensors (to make the DR easier to hold) without the risk of losing pen functionality and hence dictionary look-up. Since the firmware update the pen-bug has completely vanished (thanks iRex!).

As for battery-life, the other day I read my digital reader pretty much non-stop for a full 10 hours. I did dock it a few times but only for 5 minutes here and there while I made a cup of tea and rested my eyes. I don't think the battery dropped below 40%. Unless you are going to be travelling and won't have access to power for a few days I don't think the DR's battery life is an issue.

It took me 6 months to love it and stop cribbing (which is in the process) , i don't want to go through the whole thing again now .

I shall embrace my digital reader for the next 1-2 year until it serves me

Hehe, I can see the e-reader really isn't a girl

You have really given me the confidence to have the reader for some purposes. Thanks.

BTW, I have planned to use my coming DR for longer time, then I plan to buy a piece of paper, on which I imagine I can see movies

I think the DR performs its job very well. Yes there are a number of areas that need addressing, for me the callibration is my main gripe, others have more of an issue with battery life etc.

For general reading of A4 documents it is very good. More applications would be of benefit and I'm sure that may come. We already have FBreader which opens up more formats and the Xournal application looks very promising as a writepad replacement, though it would be nice if that would export your notes as a pdf asn there is no MAC version of Xournal.

For people in an office or education based environment with a heavy reading/marking workload, it is ideal. I find it a bit too big and bulky for reading novels, escpecially on vacation.

Yingwu,
They can be downloaded from within this forum. I'm not sure if the links here work, but:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39589
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37998

and they work on V1.6

I´m happy with my DR too . Battery is not a problem to me either .

I read a lot pdf , and since i´m outside US and read a lot portuguese books , Amazon library is not for me , i think maybe the DR is a better option .

But I really want to see the adobe upgrade for the DR , Reading pdf is nice but i think could be better .
