A leftie academic's DX experience

As a bonafide leftie (physically and constitutionally) I have to say that I really *like* the fact that there is no page turning button on the left side!! https://www.mobileread.com/forums/ima...1/thumbsup.gif

A number of reviews have listed this lack as a downside. I like the heft and solidness of the DX and being able to firmly grab and hold the left side is a big plus.
With the larger screen I find I don't need to turn pages nearly as much as on a smaller device. It is a *much closer* experience to reading a hardback book.

One of the design 'features' I detested with the K1 was that it was nigh impossible for me to grab the thing and not make pages turn - page turn buttons were everywhere! Arg. Was sometimes difficult to get 'lost' in a book since I always had to watch where I placed my hand so as to not accidentally unleash a torrent of page turns.

On another note, have actually tested some PDF-based textbooks on the DX (am in the higher education field). I was pleasantly surprised. Appearance is great - load and page times were quite a bit quicker than I had assumed based on comments in forums and reviews.

Both the increased size and resolution of the DX screen work to make smaller type sizes much more legible than on smaller e-ink devices I've used. A PDF zoom feature in portrait mode would still be really welcome. A number of university trials will be starting up this Fall, and am hoping that feedback from those will trigger some needed additional features and improvements so the DX will work better in an academic setting. It also bothers me that not much has been proposed about Amazon working with academic libraries regarding the Kindle (ala Google) but that's for another thread...

I'm not a leftie, but the unwanted page turns was the most annoying design flaw of the K1. I never had a problem on the K2. I do miss the left hand button on the DX.

Pdf zoom and active links would be big improvements to the DX.
