Smile Another Newbie

Hey, y'all! I decided to buy a reader when I ran out of bookshelf space and got tired of driving to the library. My own public library (Gwinnett County, GA, USA), offers a limited selection of DRM-protected .pdf and even fewer mobipocket books, on Overdrive. I impulsively bought a BeBook, because it can access so many formats, and the website advertised a "temporary price reduction". However, since it does not read DRM-protected .pdf, I really had to buy a Sony PRS-505, also at a discount. I now realize I am a tech addict. My pupils dilate wider in a computer store than in a jewelry store. Is there a 12-step program for that? I own my own business, and although I am not unemployed, I am not making any money. So this was all foolishness. However, tech makes me happy and reading makes me happier. I love fiction, history, and historical fiction. Fantasy is OK but I prefer something that doesn't strain my credulity. Like Garrison Keillor, I like to have more truthfulness in my lying. I am looking forward to checking out some of the writers on this site. I wish I could write but I don't have that gift. Hats off to those of you who do.

Welcome to MobileRead, reeder2.

Here's the good news.........if you will click on the "ebook" tab at the top of this page, you see thousands of books free for the downloading. all hand formatted by our members, so that they will read beautifully on your device.

These are classics by authors who have withstood the test of time....

Try here for other lending libraries...some charge, some don't. I understand NYPL has an extensive catalog of books..

enjoy!

I think this site itself is addictive It certainly seems to take up a lot of my time. (But only in a good way!)

I think you'll find lots of people who share your addiction here, and probably lots of ideas that will feed yours. Enjoy it, and don't let the tech stuff distract you from reading!

Greetings all

I am from Jacksonville, Fl and have had my BeBook reader for less than a week. Right now I am trying to get my pdf files transferred to the reader (I have lots - technical and "interesting" ones).

I am 76 years old (will be 77 in July) and I expect to read all the files I am transferring (before I die). (My eyes would not let me read via the computer any longer). - Anyway, I've already put quite a few books on the reader -- I think my computer time has now gone west - I am computer literate, and as I've always said, "I do software not hardware".

I don't know how much time I'll have to read these forums - my eyes are still weak for looking at the computer screen. To all you newbies with new readers may your reading pleasure increase even more now that you have all your reading materials in one place and in one "batch"!

Welcome to MR, reeder 2 and lotusblossom

Do check out our authors on this site. They have generously provided many books in various genres.

Also, I have recently started reading old action and sci fi stories that have been beautifully formatted by MR members (I found that that are fun to read and something I wouldn't have tried before getting my Sony 505.)

Greetings, lotusblossom.

You might want to start a new thread so more of us will notice a new member.
