Palm Treo and Audi join via Bluetooth

It's a commonplace sight: drivers taking their eyes off the road and hands off the wheel to use their cell phones. And it's dangerous and irresponsible. Palm and Audi attempt to address this issue by offering a hands-free solution which connects the Palm Treo and VW Audi cars via Bluetooth.

Bluetooth technology comes built-in to the Treo 650 smartphone and is standard in every 2006 Audi A8 and A6, so no extra purchase is required for Treo 650 owners who also own one of these new Audi models. Bluetooth technology also is available on the 2006 Audi A3 and 2006 Audi A4 and S4 sedans and Avants when the vehicles are equipped with the optional phone preparation.

This is a great partnership that I hope becomes more commonplace: Car manufacturers working together with device manufacturers to improve compatibility.

Next, maybe Audi will have their cars beam a note to your Treo when it's time for an oil change. Then, your Treo will check your calendar for free time and create an email to the service depertment requesting an appointment for an oil change. Your Treo will ask you to approve or modify the request before sending it off to the service department.

One less phone call , thing you'll have to remember to do on your own or enter into your device manually as a reminder. The same thing could be done when the service light comes on where your Treo sends off the OBD code to the service department.
