want to go from 500 to 300

will I lose any features? I dont care about music or other extraneous features.

I just care about reading. I know I will gain the ePub format capability but will I lose any feature? Can I still check out library books or download google books with this? Stuff I cant do with the prs500 because it lacks epub

The only thing your losing is memory card support. But the 300 has a lot more internal memory then the 500. Your gaining a much better screen. I say go for it.

the screen is better? does that mean it refreshes more quickly or the contrast is stronger? because the prs500 I have now has perfectly good contrast it seems.

also I was wondering does it actually fit in your pocket?

Check out this video comparing the 500 to the 505. You can see the difference. I have the 300, 500 and 505. The 300 screen is comparable to the 505. Some say the 300 is a fractions of a second slower then the 500 but I have not noticed this.

Wow that is a huge difference. Now idk if I should go with the 505 or 300. If the 300 does actually fit into a pocket then maybe I should. Does it?

It fits nice when I am wearing some Docker's or dress slacks. Not so much when wearing Levi's. Welcome to MobileRead by the way.

300

I got the 300 two weeks ago and love it. I upgraded from a Bebook and the difference is night and day. As Madam Broshkina says "nice in dockers or dress slacks not so much levi's". It will actually fit in the back pocket of your levi's, but I've learned from experiance that if you leave it on it will change pages, books etc....

Regards, Daryl

Wait, it's SLOWER than the 500? Or did you mean the 505?

Most reviews seem to have got it as being slightly slower than a 505, which is a shame as the combination of increased portability and the extra internal memory to offset the loss of a card slot would have made the 300 a potential upgrade for 505 users if it was also a speed upgrade.

"Slower" means that there seems to be barely a fraction of a second of extra delay before the page flashes when you press the pageturn button. It is no big deal. I quickly got used to pressing the button when I start the last line on a screen and timing is perfect. (I've read at least a dozen novels on my 300, after many more on my 505.) Speed is not a huge factor on ereader devices. As long as you can have a normal reading rhythm, it's fast enough. There are not PCs that handle graphics, have to process image and video data, etc. Just display text and turn pages, basically. If it takes 15-30 seconds one time to format a new book, I don't see that as a problem.

Oh yeah, and my 300fits easily in the front pocket of my jeans or dress pants, even with the pouch orSony cover.

I suspect that depends on how tight your jeans are.

I would at least consider the Astak 5" Pocket Pro if you are considering the 300 -- it has the same screen but many more features.

Or a clearance/used 505....

Thanks for the replies.

I was just looking for clarification on this comment (and got it, it seems):

Quote:

Given the two replies, looks like that was a typo and should have read "505."

Has anyone tried the NIV Bible on the 300? That's the REAL test. It's such a dog on my 500 (not a typo ) that it's almost unusable. It's just too big for the poor guy, so loading, TOC selecting, etc. all take in the 10 second range. Once you get where you're going, it's okay. But forget cross referencing!
