What's your favorite 'word?'
Do you have a favorite word? Either because of its meaning or just the sound of it?
My favorite word in English is 'delicatessen' (which isn't really an English word any way.) I just love the way this word rolls off my tongue... de li ca tess en... delicatessen... del i ca tessen... I get an added bonus because of its meaning. Can there be a better kind of shop? de li ca tess en... delicatessen... del i ca tessen... What's your favorite word? Stitchawl |

^ Ah! But that is the beauty of that one - such an inherently ironic word

My two favourite words are "ramekin" and "galangal". They sound so delightful to my ear, and their definitions obviously stir a couple of other senses too.
![]() A more recent contender currently watching from the sidelines is the word "synecdoche". I remember first seeing it as the title for a Charlie Kaufman film (which I have not yet seen), and I like what it is. If I raised its status though it would only make it a trinity, and not replace either of the triumphant two. RrrrrrrAMekin. GA-LAN-GAL! Mmmmm... Cheers, Marc |

*oak* I like the way my mouth feels when I say it, it rounds out, with a solid "K" at the end of the word, almost like thumping on a good solid piece of oak furniture.
also, 2 non-english words which I will probably misspell; "hubschrauber" which is german for helicopter, my kids and I used to hold our arms out and spin in circles going "hub-hub-hub" which kind of sounds like helicopter sounds. "regenschirm" which is german for umbrella, it feels like the regen (rain) has been schirmed away ![]() |

Egads. My wife and I have been saying it for years and people still look at us weird.

My favorite word lately is "ignoranus" (yes it's not a real word - but it should be!), it's just so accurate and descriptive of so many people.

Do you know what the most favorite word in the entire world is? It's English and was invented by a group of upper middle class males in Boston at the turn of the century (1900) or so. It is the most understood and used word in the world and used in virtually every country on the planet.
