Another "Hi!" from Arizona

Hi! I just registered Sunday and have been enjoying the information available from everyone.

I am an avid reader (just for fun) and began researching readers since last year (OK, I AM a bit...nerdy). My sweet husband purchased me a jetBook, but I have read somany reviews that are not so favorable. I only charged it, attempted (unsuccessfully) to download a book, found it hard to read (dark and screen glare when lit). We tried to exchange it, but the store wouldn't allow it even though I was going to buy a more expensive one.

With my own research I had it narrowed down to the Kindle, Sony PRS 700 (mostly for its ease and light) or the PRS 505.

Not sure what to do and am quite open to suggestions - keep, sell, what to buy, etc.

Welcome F1Wild!

Nah, you're not a bit nerdy -- you will be in good company here anyway!

I have a 505 which I love -- easy to read and use. Be sure to check out the 'Which device should I buy' section and the wiki (link at the very, very top of the page).

hello F1Wild ! another arizonan (arizonian ??), eh ? desertgrandma will be so pleased ! be sure and check in her thread.

you'll find we're all a bit geeky at heart here and of course we all love reading so you'll fit right in... choosing which device you want can be nerve-wracking... personally, i have a sony 700 which i LOVE so i'm a bit biased ! i love the touchscreen for the comfort of use, love the search and notes functions, and it supports epub format natively, which is the new industry standard and the best format for complex layout, compatibility, and future-proofing.

there are plenty of people around here who can give you their opinions and experiences, but i'm sure whatever you choose you'll love it.

Curly has given some excellent advice, our "which one should i buy" forum is full of people wondering the same thing as you and you might get some helpful info. and the wiki is packed with great information too. don't miss the "e-ink device matrix" (there's a link on the home page of the wiki) to easily compare the basic specs of all devices.

feel free to ask any questions you might have, and let us know what you decide ! once you figure out which device you'll get, check out our ebooks section ("ebooks" link in the blue nav bar at the top of the page) for thousands of free books formatted by our members !

have fun, and happy reading !

Hi F1Wild

Welcome and enjoy! Which ever model or brand you eventually decided upon, just be sure that you get the silver colored one. They work best.

Welcome to MobileRead, F1Wild.

I have the K1, and wouldn't trade it for any of the others, but thats just me. I like the SD card slot, and replaceable batteries, for one thing. If you are in college, or looking for a bigger screen, Amazon has the DX coming out soon. At any rate, you'll find lots of great advice here.....

Lurk and learn.

Thank you all for your welcome - I appreciate it!!

I have a feeling whatever I choose (and if I decide to somehow exchange the jetBook) will work better than a paperback. My husband is from Bangor, N. Ireland and we have lived both there and here in AZ. Stephen is so sick of me carting 5-10 books with me when traveling so this is definitely the way to go!

BTW, where in Scotland are you, Curly - we LOVE it there. We could see Scotland on a clear day (right, like there were more than 2) from our house in NI. We were in Scotland lots & lots, mostly in the Highlands area and of course many weekends pub-crawling in Portpatrick. At one point we lived outside of Lancaster, England and were only a hour from the border - so weekends up north! Most memorable was our stay on the Isle of Skye for the summer solstice!

Again, thanks for the advice and I will check out the other threads!

Scotland is a beautiful place isn't it? We live not too far from the Trossachs -- there are some lovely walks up in the hills. This is the year of the Homecoming and Robert Burns so there are a number of special events this year.

"My heart's in the highlands,
my heart is not here.
My heart's in the highland
achasin' the wild deer....

There was always something romantic and exhilarating in my mind about Scotland... Some day I'll get there and see for myself.

Enjoy your new excursion into reading.
