Read while charging

According to the wiki and some posts here, it is possible to read while the Cybook is charging with a trick involving "slide show".

Well, I've tried this today and I have a couple of comments:

1. It seems to work for me, and I have firmware build 796, though the wiki says "this only work on CyBook with Firmware Build 802 or more". But maybe my Cybook isn't really charging, although the red LED has turned on.

2. Now that it's plugged, the UI is much more responsive, page turns and menu navigation are faster, probably because the time between the button press and the OS action is reduced due to the OS being permanently "awake".

Do you have the same experience?

Not tried it - one of the 'advantages' of the electronic reader was getting away from the wires .... :chortle:

But this is so you can still read when charging the battery so you can then be away from the wire.

You have it to work on a Build 796 Cybook? Does you book are on the SD Card ? or in the main memory?
That's strange.

Anyway I know that there is some hardware bug in old cybook/netronix clone that will slow them for some ms when waking up, that's why your's will turn page faster when it is plugged, since it doesn't sleep

Yes, I was reading with the Cybook plugged and the LED was red. I don't know if it was really charging, the battery indicator was at 90% for the whole session (but after I turned it off, the next time I turned it on, now unplugged, it was 100%).

Most of my books (and the one I was reading) are on the SD card.

It could be. I feel it a little slow in normal usage, nothing worring though. This is an old Cybook, with 64MB and slow processor (~Feb 2008).

Someone added that to the wiki back in March. I don't know why - it's worked fine for me on 796. I've changed it.

I haven't done it often enough to have noticed. It makes sense that that would be so, but that doesn't mean much :-)

It 's due to the way 200Mhz Cybook and 400Mhz cybook are make. The USB part is really different between them. If you could browse the content of your 200Mhz cybook both on your computer and your cybook, be carfull, it could led to FAT corruption (and it the same for 400Mhz Cybook too) but the big difference between them is the 200Mhz Cybook the USB is purely hardware made, on the 400Mhz it seems that it's done 50/50 hardware/software

By the way, I had the Cybook plugged to the wall with the usb adapter, NOT to the computer.

I have an early (assumed 200MHz) CyBook, and when in "reading while charging" mode I don't see the internal memory or the SD Card through the computer at all.

Are you saying that this does happen with the 400mHz model?

Ok, so it's a real feature, not a hack (normaly on a 200Mhz model, it's impossible to have the internal memory both with the PC or the Cybook.

I didn't test with the 400Mhz, don't know if it's possible
