Readius folding e-book reader might come out this year

Readius, which announced their folding e-reader using a flexible e-paper screen last year, failed to bring it out on the market due to lack of funding. They now say that new investors have been found and it might just come out this year.

I look upon the first gen device as more of a technology demonstration than a practical device. Would YOU really want to read on a 5" screen with a 320x240 resolution? That's going to result in awfully "blocky" text - like reading an old fasioned dot-matrix printer printout (for those sufficiently elderly to remember such things! ).

I did not remember that the resolution was so low. Wonder if the new model coming out has higher resolution. Thanks for reminding us Harry.
Actually, the Cassiopeia I bought in 2001 to read MobiPocket files on had the same low resolution, now that I think of it. There's no going back to the bad old low res days though.

Yes, but it had a much smaller screen, hence more "dots per inch", and the text looked a lot better than it would on the Readius.

There is a good "first look" review at i to i blog. Note that this was over a year ago. The 320x240 resolution is an issue, but it has 16 grey scales. Given the great interest in the Kindle Store delivery model, I am surprised Polymer Vision could not get traction. Perhaps it would have worked in the US but not in Europe.

It would probably work fine as a PDA - contacts, diary, that kind of thing. I'm just not sure I'd want to do a lot of reading on it, but the same is true of my Smartphone, too, come to that.

I'm not really very interested in having yet another cell phone. I wonder if I can just stick the SIM from my ATT MediaNet modem in it?
