From Deepest Darkest Appalachia
New member here though I bought my first Kindle in December 2007. I upgraded this spring to the Kindle 2 which I like better in several ways although it is harder to turn the pages with one hand while eating with the other.
Yesterday I had something unusual happen. I am used to people asking me WHAT my Kindle does when they see me reading it. Now for only the second time has a stranger asked me if it was a Kindle. Then he said that he was seeing a lot of people coming in to eat lunch and read on them. Looks like ebooks are really making headway. |

Hi, and welcome.
I'm interested to hear you say what you did about reading. I've found my reader to make eating and reading easier! It lies flat on the table, I can turn the page with a clean pinkie, and doesn't take up much room on a counter if needed. Much easier than a paper book. Being new to e-book readers, I had my first stranger stop me to ask what my strange device was. It was fun showing it to him! Happy to hear that you like your new Kindle. There seems to be a lot of opposing opinions about it. Stitchawl |

Thank you for the welcome
Actually, I couldn't keep my Kindle 1 in the folder so I usually held it and was able to easily click pages forward. It's a little harder with Kindle 2 which does stay in the Amazon folder nicely but is a little harder to click. I have started to use the flat on the table position when space allows.
And oh, dear, oh, dear. I do have my mother's voice in the back of my head: "Don't bring that book to the table, you are not going to read while you eat!" |

Welcome!
I have never seen anyone else out and about with an ebook reader of any kind, and I keep expecting people to ask me why I'm staring into a small cover for long periods of time. only one person has ever asked. Glad to hear it's making headway elsewhere! |

G'day Whimsey. Welcome aboard. Everything I know about Appalachia I learnt from Bill Bryson's A Walk In The Woods, and I've forgotten most of that (or, at least, filed it down some back alley). ![]() Cheers, Marc |

Hi Whimsey! Welcome to Mobileread.
It's good to hear that people are starting to recognize the Kindle where you are. I've had one person recognize it here in Tennessee (he was thinking about getting one for his wife for Valentine's day, so he was very interested to see what it could do). I've also had people recognize it at science fiction conventions, but that's kind of a special audience :-) |
