Hello from the UK

Hi all, I came across this site whilst researching ebooks and devices. I'm hoping it'll help me decide which device to go for! I read a lot and really want to move to ebooks soon. Although we can't get the kindle or sony prs 700 here yet I'm still finding it difficult to decide what to go for.

We do have a rather large contingent of members from the UK, so they will be able to give you some guidance on which readers they feel are easily purchased in your country.

Hi Ruth and welcome!

There is a large UK contingent here on MobileRead -- glad you have come along to join us!

After doing a lot of research here, I finally bought a Sony 505 a few months ago and can't imagine life without it now. There are ways and means of getting a Kindle or a 700 in the UK if they have features you really need, but there are other great devices out there as well.

Hi Ruth,

Welcome! Depending on where in the UK you are, you might even be able to see some of the devices that you can't see in a shop (e.g. the Cybook). Keep an eye out for a meet-up, or visit the "See a Device" thread.

Thanks everyone, I'm already getting lots of ideas from reading the forums. I'm not sure how anyone ever makes a decision though!

And having been into a sony store to have a look I've decided on the 505. All the information on MR has really helped and I know I'm going to be here a lot as I start using my new reader!
