Neck strap
Does anyone know of someone who will make a custom neck strap/lanyard? I am looking specifically for someone who can make a lanyard with a padded strip to evenly distribute the weight of the device. I've seen lanyards for mobile phones, but I think they would be uncomfortable because even the heaviest smart-phones are much smaller and lighter than the Sony. I would also prefer that the padded bit be made out of cotton fabric because I've had problems with contact dermatitis from nylon straps.

Let me recommend that you visit a good camera shop and take a look at the 'Op-tec' brand of neoprene camera straps. (Actually, there are several manufacturers these days.) The better ones are covered with soft knitted cotton while the neoprene takes up all the 'bounce' of the weight of the reader/camera, etc. I carry a very heavy camera with large lenses and without this sort of strap I'd be neckless... In fact, I even use their heavy duty strap as a pack strap on a duffel bag. It's like having a shock absorber built into your weight.

I never thought of using camera straps! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to pursue that.

These neoprene camera straps come in many different configurations so do check out several retailers to find the one that best for you. The one that I have in mind has very comfortable rolled and bound edges, while another brand is just a cut of neoprene with raw edges but is a much wider strap. Different strokes....
