PRS 500v505v700 & Trade up

I posted on here a little while ago that I managed to get a 505 for my wife for $15 at circuit city whilst they were closing down (ex employee) and had tonnes of trouble with it with its demo firmware, and my god it was black with dirt.

None the less I got it all working for my wife with the help of you wonderful people.

At the time I was thinking I hate it compared to my 500, I prefer the blue casing I have and the button layout on the 500 is much nicer.
But now she is using it and we read the same books at the same time I have noticed that her 8 scale screen is much better than my 4, I can barely see my screen when the light levels get just a bit low, yet I can see her text from across the room.

So Im thinking of trading up, does Sony still have a deal to trade in my old 500 I heard about once?
And as much as I love the blue of my 500 I am quite taken with the red 505, but the 700 looks nice.
Is the 700 much better than the 505? the build in light would be handy but the touch screen seems a gimic and the page turn buttons look completely in the wrong place.

Any thought anyone?

You can trade in a 500 and get a $100 credit towards a 505.

Above is the link to the Trade-in program offered by Sony. It only states trading from a 500 to a 505. Read the terms and conditions as you can only buy from Sony's online or retail store.

700 vs 505. The 700 has a few added features not found in the 505. If you have used the 505 at all you may be a little disappointed in the 700 screen contrast. If you are near a Sony store or Borders bookstore definitely check out the differences between the two devices. A Sony store should have displays of all the colors.

Good advice from grooks. Comparing them hands on will make your decision much easier. I was considering trading up to the 700 when it first came out but, comparing them side-to-side, killed that idea for me.

Thanks for the answers guys, I'll definitely try and find a borders around here somewhere, wonder where a Sony style shop is, only one i know about is in Tokyo?

Am I being a bit thick or is the rebate just a credit to the Sony style site, cos you have to make a purchase first then mail in the PRS500 then you get a credit, if you purchase the 505 first then your credit card is already charged with the full amount.

If you are in the U.S. and go to a Sony store you will get the $100 off the purchase of a 505 (you need to trade-in the 500 at the time of purchase).

Where are you located? You could go to sonystyle.com and check the locations of their stores.

Look into using ebay for your swap. I sold my old 500 for $175 and bought a new 505 for about $195 after using Microsoft Live Cashback. The Cashback reward isn't as high anymore but you can still do better on selling yours on ebay than selling it back to Sony.

I'm currently waiting patiently for the cashback to comeback up. I think Microsoft is using the scare tactic to make people buy stuff as soon it starts to decrease. If they see the usage slows down then they might push it back up to 20% again.

Right before Xmas it was up to 30%. I bought several items then. I think my PRS-505 was bought with %25 cashback.

found the nearest sony style store to me, its in Philly which is nearly 3 hours away, so maybe next month I'll pop in and have a look.

So you think its not worth doing the sony trade up, just buy a new one and sell the 500 on eBay?

Sounds like you could get more than $100 by selling it either via craigslist or ebay. If that is the case it may be the way to go.
