Kindle 3 short battery life
Amazon has sent me two replacement white kindle 3, both have very short battery life, I bet they are refurbs, since white is the only color I can get as replacements. Is there an issue with too many books resulting in short battery life (I have 150 pages of books) or are the refurbs just bad? Note it goes down 50% after 5 hours of reading with no radio on. These are the wifi and 3g, keyboard models.

I would restore to factory default then add books a few at a time over a period several days. Like SamuraiXSendai said, it is probably an indexing issue with moving such a large number of books over at once.

Thanks for the ideas, I also have the Amazon kindle phone person contacting engineering to see if they had any ideas or wanted to see the kindle. I would think that after 5 hours it would have indexed. Although if they used the wrong algorithm things go up as the square of the number of books.

![]() Leave the Kindle plugged in over night to the wall while it indexes. After that check for it to make sure it's through and nothing is stuck. You can do this by doing a search for gibberish. It will show what is left to index. After indexing is done make sure you have a full charge then test it for a few days to see how battery life is acting. It sounds to me there is nothing wrong with the Kindle. It's too many books being added at one time draining the battery. Last edited by Blossom; 02-19-2012 at 10:18 PM. |

I agree with Blossom. 1500 books will take several hours - if not days - to index completely. Just keep it plugged in til it's done.

Your poor Kindle! It's probably going to cause the Indexing gremlins to pick up and leave. Either that, or boycott your next run of books.

Type in some random non word like ghtdjdk, when the Kindle finishes the search it will tell you if there are books still being indexed or not. It takes a long, long time to index the number of books your talking about and will be a real battery drain until it's finished.
