A Whole New Way to Read!

My 505 finally arrived. Yippee!
I normally read three or four books at the same time, but only carry one of them with me when I go out. Action thriller or two, a science book and some sort of philosophy book, rotating them with no particular order other than whim. This means that if I'm out for the entire day, all my reading is from just the one book. I was always too lazy to carry two entire paperbacks...

Today I left the house with 18 books. I had a two hour train ride this morning with one book, rode back reading another, read a third over lunch, and a fourth with my afternoon tea in the tea house. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Thinking about it, it was sort of like watching an evening of TV, where you see a different show every hour, plus a two hour one at prime time, only instead of junky programming, it was filled with a variety of good reading!

God bless you, Mr. Sony.

I've got three of four books on the go as well. It really is a treat to be able to carry one device around and have so much available at your fingertips. Congrats on your new Sony!

Fun... Are you referring to the behavioral disorder misrepresented as "a hobby?" I've discovered there is a very fine line between hobby and mental illness. In fact... I've crossed that line several times before and have a feeling I'm in the act of crossing it again.

Sounds like we should flag this message to the attention of pshrynk for consultation. You can pay his laddy at the door.

I have very similar reading habits (Trashy detective novels & Science books) and also love the Sony for that reason. My wife and I went to the islands back in January for two weeks and it was great bringing all those books but not having to carry an extra suitcase.

Enjoy your addiction, er, I mean, hobby

Me too, that's one of the reasons I love the ereader. I finished the book I've been reading about 10 minutes into my lunch time. Normally, I'd start digging for a paper or keep eating in bored silence for another 50 minutes. Nope, a few button presses and the next book was good to go.

Congratulations on the new reader!

Ahhh, a fellow sufferer. Thank you for sharing.

I, myself, and a victim to the horrible condition known as collecting. My CD collection was in the high hundreds until I sold them all to buy my kids a swingset. My DVD library is large enough to open a video store (around 1500). My paper book library was some where over 2000 15 years ago. My wife is insisting that since we both have 505s, that I need to start getting rid of the paper books. I have been doing this with books that I got 20 years ago and never read but I can't bring myself to get rid of my genre collections and collections of favorite authors even though I have a lot of the books for my Reader.

A good friend who is a great videophile than I worded it best:

"Collecting is not a hobby. It is a sickness."

Welcome home to a community full of people afflicted with this and similar conditions. You are welcome here.

You're safe. Had you been a 'real' collector, you would have sold your kids to buy more CD's!

You must read Jeffery Deaver's 'Lincoln Rhyme novel, "The Broken Window." Now THAT is some serious collecting, and a seriously good read!

Congratulations on getting this ebook reader!

Although it can be a great device to use, it is also not as durable as many would like. As a result, it would be a good idea to invest in a very tough case for it.

I wonder if you can get the new SONY TRIFOLD cover from Sony in Japan? Those in Europe can buy it but not those in the USA (unless they spend major $$$ to import).

I do this all the time!! I often read more than one book at a time anyway, so this makes it so much easier!

Isn't it wonderful? I love having several books all in one unit. I am usually reading a novel, a collection of short stories and a book of poetry at the same time - bouncing back and forth as my whimsy moves me.

I currently own a Sony-505 and a Kindle-2 - and love them both.
