New to eBooks
Just showed up today and after reading several posts decided this was the place to be. Don't have a reader yet. Am torn between Kindle 2 and Sony 505 or 700. Hope to find answers to my many questions. I'm in the US in NW Arkansas. Travel some and love to read. The ability to carry several books in one small package is very appealing. Look forward to many discussions about devices and books. HAPPY READING!

Hi, Old Man! Welcome!
I love my Sony 505, but all three of the gadgets you mentioned have their strengths and weaknesses. You'll want to find the one that aligns best with your needs... |

From one old man to another, welcome. I haven't seen it with my own eyes but from things I've heard about the PRS-700 screen, you might want to actually see one prior to buying.

Welcome from a fellow newbie! I finally got a 505 for my first reader last week - I am very impressed with it to be honest, although the 700 wasn't an option I had here in England.

I got my 505 over a year ago and well before the 700 came out but, were I to make that decision today, I'd still get the 505

Hi old man and welcome!
I purchased a 505 recently and like it very much ![]() TeleRead has an article (link) about choosing between the Kindle and Sony readers today. Cheers, Rick |

Thanks Cassidym that's reassuring to hear! The thing I was concerned most about when choosing was the quality of the screen, and from what I was able to gather the screen on the 505 is better.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I ended up with a Kindle 2. Being able to download without a computer was the deciding factor. Have had it 4 days and love it. now I'm afraid I'll end up buying too many books. The fact that Amazon is the only place to buy from was not a deal breaker for me. With over 245,000 books to choose from I don't think I' live long enough to read them all. (I am an Old Man after all.) True I'm not too happy with Amazon's latest move but I can live with it.
HAPPY READING!!! |

Hi Old Man,
I'm glad you decided on which device you liked. I liked the fact that I could download w/o a computer too. I also am now working my way through all the classics in the domain. Although you need a computer to do that, it is worth the small effort. enjoy your device. |
