I saw a post on a review of Lifehacker at the Amazon site that stated:

so far, no one has been charged for browsing with the whispernet.
There is lots of erroneous information out there. When in doubt, you might want to call their kindle support line........... |

I think - given the depth of knowledge (and usage) of this forum - if anything had happened as alleged in Lifehacker - we would have had threads bursting out of the seams here. You guys don't miss anything!

The howls of indignation would be heard around the world.
However, all that being said.......I would not be surprised, if in the future, Amazon decided it would charge for some internet access. I wont' have to worry about it. Trying to get anywhere other than the Kindle store is an exercise in head pounding futility. Slow, battery draining...........wait. Suppose they made it like that on purpose? ![]() |

The reason no fees are listed is because CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO FEES.
Amazon may charge for web browsing in the future, but they don't currently. |

I agree the web browser is 'experimental'. This means that in the future they may start charging even though they don't today.
I agree that web browsing on the Kindle is slow and painful. However it is still useful as a last resort. I just went on a family vacation, and used the K2 a couple of times to look up addresses on places I was trying to find. |

You know, everyone says how slow the Kindle's web browsing is...
I was on dialup until February. The Kindle is only a little slower than that. Seriously. And if you don't have easy access to wifi, the Kindle can save your tush; I remember [looking up/mapping] an address in Ohio on it, in a moving car, when the nearest computer I could have accessed was in Tennessee. It was a little slow, but it *worked.* |
