Old Star Wars Novels
I'm currently re-reading Vector Prime, the first book in the New Jedi Order Series. I was wondering, as most Star Wars books are definitely no longer canon or have anything to do with the cinematic universe, whether there is even any point reading any of the expanded universe novels anymore? I'm enjoying Vector Prime, and have enjoyed other novels in the EU. I kind of feel that if you enjoy a book you should just read it, or should I not waste my time and read something else? What do you think?
(Apologies for the rubbish sentence structure earlier in my question). |

If you like it, read it. If you have a problem with it not beeing canon, just see it as an alternative time line. At least the EU is more or less consistent in itself. You won't get any new books in that time line anymore, but hey, a few hundred already exist

Agree. For the most part, the old Star Wars books never were really cannon. It's just a shared universe that a lot of authors used where they tried to avoid major inconsistances. If you enjoy the books, by all mean re-read to your heart's content.

Just pick and choose the ones you like, and discard the ones that are essentially bad fanfic.
I'll usually reread Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Saga, and Micheal A Stackpole's X-Wing series once every couple of years. To be honest, I'm quite pleased at the removal of the EU as canon, personally. |

Thanks guys, that was the sort of direction I was going in. Just a quick question: Which of the Star Wars EU books are "bad fanfic"?

I enjoyed the New Jedi Order series that started with Vector Prime.
The two series after that, Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi were both awful...and this is coming from someone who loooooooves Star Wars. Zahn's work, the X wing series and some of the stand alones like The Han Solo Adventures, the Lando Calrissian Adventures, etc were good. |
