Exclamation Amazon: I want my content back!

Right after I pre-ordered my Kindle 2 my Kindle 1 died during the firmware update to version 1.2.

One of the force multipliers my Kindle 1 supplied me with was that it had my periodical collection indexed. I had a nicely focused portable bucket of human knowledge I could search through. One of the issues with Google is so much noise is in it searches can be tough to focus at times.

So my little bit of human knowledge stored on my Kindle was useful to me.

I had that periodical collection backed up to the memory card but its all DRM'd to the PID for that first Kindle.

So noone of it works on the new Kindle 1 they sent me.

No big deal I thought: just go grab it all back out of their cloud. They ate my Kindle, they can pay for the bandwidth to put it all back.

So far I've found no way to get it back out of the cloud.

Nor have I found anyway to get it onto my new Kindle 2.

So when Amazon tries to allay our fears of the slot-less Kindle 2 by saying "You can delete content and bring it back anytime" they are wrong about periodical content.

They're also skipping over the power of having your periodical content indexed for access by hinting "Why do you need it all on your Kindle anyway?"

Suddenly my Kindle 2 doesn't seem as shiny shiny as it did.

This is why you remove the DRM from anything you don't want to lose.

Please draft a email to customer service. I try to dig up the official term of service regarding subscription content but not able to find one from my casual clicking.

usually publisher take a very different view on digital periodical product, I do suggest you email the periodical publisher regarding their digital product retention policy... (I am not saying how come you can't back it up yourself but let's post the publisher response here since many readers will be interested in that)
