The web is awash in Acronyms, Initialisms, and Alphabetisms, IMHO.

Are you old enough to remember UNIVAC?

I like my current favourite, WAIT, because it's a Double Entendre, in the ironic sense.

WAIT (What Am I Thinking!), did I just say that out loud?

This is a tame one, give me your wild, hilarious or obscene examples.

FTW always makes me laugh, because i didn't learn what it really means for a long time, so even now when i see it my first reaction is to read it "Fut the whuck".

plus "for teh win !!!" is a funny expression.

A favourite for a while has been IMNSHO (In My Not So Humble Opinion)

and ALIAN (A Lawyer I Am Not), because it just looks so much better than the usual IANAL (I Am Not A Lawyer)

One that always, always confuses me is iow - people use it instead of writing In Other Words, but my first thought is always Isle Of Wight!

actually a lot of those initialisms confuse me.

i have to stop and figure out what they are. for that reason, except for the ones i use ironically because i think they're funny ("fut the whuck" FTW !!) i usually avoid them.

I've always liked the Campaign for the Removal of Acronymic Practices.

And I have a fondness for left-recursive acronyms, such as GNU.

PCMCIA: Which I always, always always remember as People Can't Memorise Computer Industry Acronyms

My clients always write "ASAP". What the hell do they mean? As sure as peace?
