Hi everyone!
Hi folks,
I'm a fairly avid reader, with the misfortune of living in a small town without a bookstore. Since I already do most of my book shopping on line, ebooks and a reader would seem like a no-brainer, but until my wife saw the Oprah episode featuring the Kindle, I'd never heard of them. Probably should have logged on as 'living in a bubble man'. I happened across MobileRead today while searching for info on the Kindle and the Sony readers. I live in Canada, so the Kindle isn't an option right now, but I was trying to decide if I should hold out until it becomes available here, or go with the Sony now. Seems like I've found far more than I could have hoped for. Can't wait to dig into the rest of the forums! Bruce (aka northman) out. |

Welcome to MobileRead, Bruce.
I love my Kindle, but since you live in Canada, and no one know when Amazon will be expanding their service there, I would suggest you go with the Sony. Why? Because the Sony is also an excellent device, (as our Sony owners will attest to,, and you would be doing yourself and your wife a disservice by not having one. The free books available here and elsewhere, the freedom to carry your library with you, the sheer convenience is awesome. Good luck with your choice! |

Hello and welcome!
As of right now, there haven't been any dates (or rumored ones I think) when the Kindle will come to Canada. That being said, I have a 505 and I love it! Is there anything in particular that makes you want the Kindle more? I know Canadians are getting their butt kicked on the exchange rates right now, but you can usually find 505s somewhere for $250 USD. Whatever you decide, I think you'll be happy. You're like the perfect ebook device customer ![]() |

Hi Bruce and welcome to the Forum. I've had a Sony 505 for over a year now and really like it. Big advanrage of the Kindle is the wireless feature but that isn't a big deal for me.

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies. Now that I've spent some time in the forums, I see that there are far more options to explore. The Kindle was the first reader I heard about, but with all the other choices out there, as well as the Canada/Kindle issue, I'm sure I'll end up going with something else.
