Updating
I love the new feature to "update only when source has changed". However I have some suggestions on how to improve it. I know you aren't working on Sunrise anymore, but perhaps my comments will apply to the new reader & conduit.
Have auto-updates always respect this option, but make manual updates ignore it. This way you can change a setting on a particular document and F5 it. Right now, if this option is checked and you want to for example enable images that were disabled, in order to update the doc you have to disable this feature, enable images, hit ok, hit F5, wait till finished, then open properties and re-enable the "update only" option. In addition, I don't understand why this option is even an option. I think it should be made global and always enabled (unless someone goes into an advanced options dialog). I feel this is not the sort of option that people will ever change unless they have an unusual problem. Turn it on always, and you'll speed up the update time for everyone. If somebody wants to force an update, they simply Update or Update all. While on the topic of updates, I have no idea what Update Fully is. I've never had a need to use it. |

Size limit option for documents
Space is usually a premium on my ipaq. I would hate to have a Sunrise update fill up my RAM and cause me to have to do something drastic in order to fix it (in case the OS or apps became unstable due to lack of temp space). What I'd like to see in Sunrise or the new conduit is an option to limit the size of either each document or all documents.
Some channels are quite small, but I have a few that I like to turn images on and those can be upwards of 1.5MB. If a size limit were enabled on a channel or a whole set of channels I would expect Sunrise to just stop where it was, close out the document, truncating where necessary. I'm not sure how the logic would work because I know you don't know how big the doc will be after compression. There has to be some way to go about this though. Perhaps just have Sunrise estimate based on an average compression ratio. |
