How CALIBRE got its name...
Converter And LIBRary for Ebooks
Other factors making the name appropriate:
Kovid is a grad student at CALtech. That is where CALIBRE was conceived.
Kovid's Zodiac sign is LIBRa.
Calibre means degree or grade of excellence and CALIBRE is a high calibre product ;-)
Its a short word with a nice zing to it.
I had recently watched a west wing episode where Bartlet used a gun metaphor in commenting on Richies book.
And i nagged Kovid till he agreed to the name ;-)

Well, indeed--thanks for clearing that up! I have a confession to make: I sometimes find it annoying when people call it caliber instead of calibre, though strictly speaking the two are interchangeable in definition.
