Question PIN issue on my Iliad

first of all, excuse me for the sort of "english" i'm using.

now for the issue:

I've actually given up bothering, but there are times when i'm thinking - there must be a way.
i forgot my PIN
i tried the official "way to go" for unlocking the device, that is contacting the support team. after a lengthy conversation (prooving i'm the owner, figuring out i've no MyIrex account) they said the only way to fix the device is sending it to iRexTech for service. That was the day i learned about "credit points"
Anyway, i thought i'll give it a one last try before throwing the device out the window. So, any ideas on that account are greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed mobile reading, but cannot afford buying another device.

Did you mean PIN or PID?
If you meant PIN, there can be two PINs for iLiad users. One is used to access iRex website, the other is used to access shell of iLiad. If you lost the first one, you have to contact iRex. If you forget the second one, it can be reset after reflash from CF.

Added:
Another PIN: to access your wireless AP.
BTW, I can't imagine the necessity to send iLiad back to iRex for lost PIN.

thanks for the reply
what I mean is the PIN-code which locks the graphical user interface.
the technician said it would be of no use reflashing the device because password is stored in "user space memory" and refused sending me the file.
I would surely like to give it a try.

"the PIN-code which locks the graphical user interface"? Well, it's the fourth PIN on iLiad. IIRC, you are the first people that is locked by iLiad GUI. How did you make it happen?
Maybe iRex is right. You have to send your iLiad back to iRex to recover it back to normal.

well, that was simple.
first set the PIN
let half a year pass not using that feature at all
set a decent click on that PIN icon on the bottom of the screen
get asked for a 4-digit number you used only a couple of times some 6-8 months ago.
stupid simplicity.

Martn,

the only way to remove the PIN, is by downloading a "RESET PIN" item by connecting your BookEdition to the internet. From your story I conclude that this item has already been placed in the mailbox for your device, but you have not been able to make a successful connection. Can you try this:

start your bookedition
connect the travelhub (the cable with the square box) to your iliad (remomber that the arrow must face down)
now take the ethernet cable from your computer (at the computer's side) and put it in the socket on the travelhub (there are 2 small LED lights above it)

now, press and hold for 2 seconds the connect button in the upper right corner (it has a sign that looks like a @, but with an i in it), until the status LED in the upper left corner starts flashing in green.

now, carefully observe what happens.
If OK: it makes connection to iDS and downloads the reset PIN item, and you should be able to use your device again
if not OK: it will show a message: "connection unsuccessful" or "username & password for myirex incorrect"

Also, looks at the 2 small LEDs on the travel hub, these should start blinking also.

good luck,

pauli

That only works if you have a MyiRex account.

IMO, there should be big red bold letters in the manual about setting a login PIN that says...

"DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A MYIREX ACCOUNT".

As Martn found out, there is no way to login to the device if you forget your password, and no way to reset it without a MyiRex account. I don't know if a reflash will fix it, but the only other option I can think of is shipping it back to iRex.

that's exactly what I think.

I know, iRex is trying hard avoiding distribution of CF utilities for iLiad.
But since I really am the owner I thought I should have the possibility to access those tools. (They should be actually shipin with the device).

That is not true. As Martn finally found out, it is possible to download the reset-pin patch without a MyIREX account. You'll need to ask for a PIN reset via IREX Support if you don't have a MyIREX account connected with your device, though.
