In File Explorer, turn on the option to show Hidden files.

Just realised that Kovid said to go into the Calibre Library folder. Whereas I was looking in the Calibre2 folder in the Programs Files folder. However I cannot find a Calibre Library folder either (or am I still looking in the wrong place?) |

the subfolder .calnotes, if visible depending on your file explorer settings (menu view -> options -> show hidden files and folders, via explorer ribbon), will be in your library folder 'root' level

C:\users\yourname\Calibre Library The library is the *folder* that contains metadata.db. And *all* the files and sub-folders in that folder. So, you could search your whole hard drive for metadata.db. Open a command prompt and type "DIR C:\metadata.db /s" This will search all folders you have permission to see, and should find your library relatively quickly. (Depending how big your drive is, it could take a couple/few minutes)

The same problem is re-occurring, regularly. Is there any way to permanently solve the problem? Should I go back to a previous version? Any help/advice should be written slowly as I'm getting old & feeling older. |

This issue will happen when some other program is interfering with calibre. Try excluding the calibre library folder from all antivirus and filesync type programs. Also try rebooting windows in safe mode and see if the problem stops occurring there, that will confirm it is some program interfering.

Thx Kovid, unfortunately at my time of life it's just all too difficult. Would an older version of Calibre help.\?

What AV are you using? If you are using Windows, you could go into Task Manager and see if you can turn off your AV from startup and see what happens. Last edited by JSWolf; 04-30-2024 at 01:58 PM.

Just adding this to help others if you come across this as I did. A possible reason for this: I run my database from a USB Drive in Windows 11 on a laptop. After a short time I would get this annoying message: sqlerror:no such table: notes_db.notes For me Windows was turning on Power Saving options for the USB Drive. Fixed via Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controller - USB Mass Storage Device - Power Management tab and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". |
