				Editor becomes sluggish

Hi again @kovidgoyal I first installed v8.2, then updated to v8.5, which I am still on. (I don't install every update, maybe every second or third release) Ever since updating to the v8 line, I have experienced the Editor becoming very sluggish. Sometimes I need to step through Regex Search and replace instead of change all. This opens xhtml sheets as I step through. As I am stepping through, I might spot other issues and quickly fix them. I might have, say, 30 pages open. The editor then becomes very sluggish. Trying to move the cursor using arrows, and it takes a second or two for it to move. Trying to type (I type 50wpm) and the letters appear very slowly, maybe upto a second between letters. I can then flip to other running programs on my pc, and everything is normal. Flip back to Calibre Editor and it is sluggish. If I flip to Calibre library and, say, edit metadata on a book it is not sluggish, but there is a very slight jerkiness when typing. I then need to close all the pages, close the editor, then re-open it and continue with my edits until it happens again. I haven't seen anybody else report this. Any idea what could be causing this? What other info can I provide? PC is i7-10700K, 32GB RAM running Win11 Thanks. Last edited by Karellen; 07-28-2025 at 04:01 AM. |

Reboot Windows into safe mode? Not restart Calibre in debug mode? Ok, will do. Last edited by Karellen; 07-28-2025 at 03:19 PM. |

The problem is this efficiency mode. Get out of it. Because QT uses Chrome, the system thinks it's a Browser and sets it Last edited by JSWolf; 07-28-2025 at 11:25 PM. |

No need for safe mode. This stupid efficiency mode is slowing down calibre.

THANKS Jon!!! The e-book viewer loaded just as fast as it did on Windows 7. Just checked out the editor and it's fast again. Again Thanks. Ron |
