calibre 'Not Responding' when connecting kobo libra
When connecting kobo libra via USB, Calibre appears to recognize the device - each of the following jobs is 'Finished':
Get Device Information Set Library Information Get list of bnooks on device However the status in the lower left shows "Analyzing books on the device: 76% finished" and Calibre is frozen/hung. I then kill the calibre process, eject the libra, and the device then displays the 'importing content' screen. It displays 6% complete for a few seconds and then opens up to the kobo home screen and seems to function correctly. I hadn't connected the device for several months until the last few days. Initially, the analyzing %age was 85 (or so). I started removing recently downloaded books and that went up to 96%. I then removed the PDFs on the device but the analyzing percentage dropped to 76%. I also reviewed the configs of the plugins but I believe they are correct. I have searched for ways to address this but I'm at a loss for what to do next, besides resetting the device. That is, obviously, not the best 'solution' in the context of my device data but also because I'd like to avoid this happening again. Calibre 8.5 Windows 10 64 bit home edition Libra software: 4.38.23171 FWIW, I upgraded to Calibre 8.5 and the new Kobo software as a way to resolve the problem but the behaviour is the same. |

It sounds like there are problems with one of your eBooks. Load each eBook into the editor and run epubcheck (it's a plugin) and see what errors you find. Then fix any errors. You should be good to go after that.

reboot in safe mode and try connecting your device. As how do you know calibre is frozen/hung? Is it not responding to input?

Safe Mode produces the same outcome. The Calibre application is shown as "Not Responding" and there cursor is not active for it. I need to kill the process.

I switched Cailbre libraries and the Kobo connections works, as does downloading books to the device.
Under [Library Maintenance], I ran [Check Library]. It noted no issues and Calibre still freezes when open to that specific library and I try to connect the Kobo. I did not try [Restore database]. Last edited by rmarhi; 07-14-2025 at 02:28 PM. |

It works or fails. Something else is in play. A Library is about books and metadata. Devices are about your USER (per PC) config. The same device uses the same config, no mater which Library is current. OTOH having a bad Automated task (plugin set to run when a specific Library is active), could. Have you tried that library with plugins disabled? |

The only scheduled task I've set up is for fetching news although the problematic library happens to be the one I try to have open for those fetches. The fact that there's a way to move past the connection / ebook loading problem provides the opportunity to try other options to identify a possible cause. |

fixed but cause not specifically identified
I copy-deleted the ebooks into a new library (using the original library template) - several new libraries, in fact.
All the new libraries function as expected when they are open and the device is attached. In fact, even the original library connects properly to the device. |
