PS the reason to convert mobi to mobi is to make them EBK books, not PDOC

I am wondering why you are converting to mobi to send to your Kindle. The Paperwhite 11th gen supports azw3 and KFX which are much better formats for displaying ebooks. Mobi is a relic of the late 1990s when the PalmDoc format had some HTML-like tags added by Mobipocket.

When I connected kindle in the first time and run Calibre, it recommends mobi. I think it is more popular so I can use my library when I ll buy a new ebook reader next year, or to share some books with friends without conversion. All the sites from Project Gutenberg to pirated archives use mobi for kindle. Do you recommend convert to AZW? I’ll try tomorrow Thanks for the answer Ps anyway it looks like a bug in the program or an error in my command line. Even if mobi is an old format, it supports cover images and they must not to be lost when converted |

Kindlegen generates a dual-mobi file which contains both KF7/mobi and KF8/azw3 format ebooks. You can use the KindleUnpack plugin for calibre to split the two formats into separate files. The penalty for this is that the output file size is close to 100% larger than a single format mobi or KF8/azw3 ebook.
If you copy a dual-mobi file to your PW, it will use the KF8/azw3 ebook. As for your sample cover thumbnails? The cover shows up on a document while the EBOK does not show a cover image. This is more or less normal since an EBOK ebook will fetch it's cover thumbnails from Amazon which may require a registered device so this will not work for you since you have stated that your Kindle is not registered. calibre does have a workaround for this that works on non-MTP Kindles only since Amazon blocks access to the cover thumbnails directory on their MTP devices. If you are converting to azw3 using calibre, you could enable sharing using Facebook to create a PDOC cdetype or use an external utility to convert EBOK to PDOC for MTP devices. Did you look at your screenshot attached in message #7? Looking at the book that has a cover thumbnail, notice the line that reads document? See the attached image where I circled that line. Care to make a wild guess as to what cdetype shows as document?

The .mobi that Kindlegen makes is a dual-format file. It included KF8 (AZW3) and Mobi in one file. If the Kindle in use cannot use KF8, it uses the Mobi and if it can use KF8, that's what it uses.
With calibre, you should never convert o Mobi unless you have a K1, K2, or KDX/KDXG. |

While the ISBN may be valid, that mobi-asin is not even close to a valid ASIN. An ASIN is a 10 character string not a string that looks like a GUID. A sample of an ASIN would be B0BSRFPQXV.
I would also suggest removing the file you attached since I am rather certain that the line in the book reading "Copyright © 2023 by Stephen King" is a pretty good indicator that it is still in copyright. |
