Kobo HD did unprompted factory reset, lost everything
....lost my reading progress, my KOReader configurations, downloaded dictionaries, all books that were on the device -- gone -- completely fresh wipe.

I plugged it in this morning and saw the LED flashing -- opened the cover and saw a screen I'd never seen before and a few seconds later while I was getting ready to take a picture of it to ask what it meant it rebooted and went through a full factory reset and then the whole setup and registration process.

EDIT: Clara HD, not sure how I missed that in the title.

How new is it? I had that happen with a Clara BW. It was still under warranty and Kobo replaced it.

I’ve had that happen before. As far as I understand, it’s caused by a database corruption, and the reformat is as designed.

That doesn’t help you out now, of course. I didn’t find that so helpful either. That’s why I started using Calibre to make backups of my DB. Actually, since the Clara SD has a removable microSD card, I would open up the case once a month and stick the card into my Mac and run dd on it to clone it to my hard drive just in case that catastrophic failure ever happened again.
